There was no blog this time last week as we were still at Laches Wood, Coven with the year 5 and 6 children. We had a fantastic time and the children were a real credit to the school. They all took part in the wide range of activities and worked together in their teams brilliantly. Throughout the week they experienced caving, canoeing, archery, pond dipping, climbing, BMX biking and bouldering. On Tuesday we spent the whole day on Cannock Chase. We were very lucky to see deer and the children enjoyed looking for signs of other wildlife there. We had a skimming stones competition and finished the day with a game of secret squirrel! The children (and staff) faced their fears on the Gladiator – a huge climbing rig. Everyone had a go and did not give up – a great achievement. As well as all the activities, the children had to learn to live away from home for the week and be responsible for themselves and others. They all coped extremely well and although there was of course some home-sickness, they all supported one another and I am very proud of them all. Please look at our latest news section for all the photographs of the visit.
This week we welcomed some new parents to school whose children will be starting in Rainbow Class in September. On Monday 26th our new nursery children will be visiting for the morning and on Thursday 29th, parents of children who are moving into Reception Class in September have been invited into school to attend a phonics workshop followed by a lunch with their child in the dining hall. We look forward to seeing you next week.
Also this week, we had a visitor from the NSPCC who came and led an assembly with the children in KS1 followed by KS2. This was very informative and I was impressed with the children’s sensible questions and viewpoints. The NSPCC are returning next Wednesday to do a workshop with the children in year 5 and 6.
Next week some of the children will be taking part in the small school’s sports day at St John’s Primary School in Swindon. The rest of the children will practise for our own sports day on 4th July.
On Friday 30th June our reading challenge comes to an end. Well done to all the children who have completed each stage of the challenge so far.
Wishing you all a warm and sunny weekend.
